Sam's new tricks

It is crazy to watch how quickly our little boy is growing. In every way. I mean, the boy is huge for his age. He is wearing 12 month clothes, and at last check is 28 inches tall and 20 pounds.  He will only be 6 months old this Thursday, so he is just a big boy.  I guess it's to be expected, as I'm no small fry, and my family is a bunch of Swedes and Scots (among other origins).

He's growing in so many other ways too, though. Sam now has two teeth - the two front bottom teeth.  The first tooth gained its independence on July 4th, and the other tooth has surfaced in the last couple of days, just in time for his first solid foods.  We are planning to feed Sam his first non-milk on Thursday as a little 6-month celebration. He outgrew his bassinet a long time ago and has been sleeping in his crib, but we are getting him a new mattress for his 6 month milestone as well, as his old one has been used by both of his cousins and is starting to get saggy.

He is growing in mobility and personality as well. He can now easily roll over from back to belly, belly to back, pivot on his stomach, do push ups, suck on his feet, and even arch his core to support himself on all fours.  He still needs support when trying to sit up, but his core is strengthening every day.  He likes to laugh, can focus on toys and voices, and is super social with new people. He is such a different baby that the one we knew for the first 6 weeks.

I love how he laughs now when we play familiar games like pretending to eat his chest, how he calms down with a lullaby or during story time, and how he has figured out that water splashes really well during bath time.  He is growing exponentially before our eyes, and we couldn't be happier.
