After all the waiting and anticipation, my boy Samuel Grey Swift was born on January 17th! He was born at 4:24 am, weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds 11 ounces, and was 21 inches long. That was 11 days ago, and we have been home from the hospital since last Sunday with our beautiful boy. As you may have noticed, I have not had the chance to post anything up to this point about the event. It turns out that nobody was exaggerating when they said how much time and energy it takes to care for a newborn!
Sam has 4 jobs that he takes very seriously - eating, sleeping, pooping, and crying. Both Elizabeth and I spend our time anticipating and catering to this little dude's needs. Elizabeth feeds the boy, and I feed the Liz. Samuel sleeps, and Elizabeth and I try to weigh our needs in terms of urgency. During this 90 -120 minute stint will I:
a) also sleep
b) eat something
c) shower
d) do laundry or dishes
e) none of the above because the baby has just broken free of his swaddle and is crying...
If you guessed e, maybe you have also known the sleep and time vortex that is the miracle of childbirth! I will try to post smaller anecdotes about the goings on here at the Swift house so you can follow along in my journey into fatherhood. For now, I will post some pictures on the 'Photo Album' page of the site to satiate the masses, and call it a night. Sam is currently sleeping, but that clock is winding down quickly...

You are amazing. Stoked for updates - small or large. Supposedly it'll get a little easier at some point...!
